Edit Layer (Panel)
-------------------

.. image:: ../_images/edit_layer.jpg
    :alt: Edit Layer Panel.

The Edit Layer Panel shows the parameters of the selected :ref:`layer<usinglayers>` or :ref:`Layer Group<layergroups>`, and is where they are changed. It replaces the pop-up layer editor of earlier versions of System Optimiser.

**What it Shows**
    The panel follows the selection in the :ref:`Layer Manager<layermanager>`:

    * Click a layer or group in the :ref:`Layer Manager<layermanager>`, or a layer in the :ref:`3D View<3dview>`, to show it.
    * A newly created layer or group, or a layer made with :ref:`'Continue Layer'<continuelayer>`, is shown straight away.
    * When nothing is selected, the panel reads 'No Layer Selected'. When several layers are selected, it reads 'Multiple Layers Selected' - use the :ref:`Layer Manager<layermanager>`'s right-click menu to change several layers at once.

**Live Editing**
    Every change takes effect immediately in the :ref:`3D View<3dview>`.

The Edit Layer Panel is part of the default :ref:`VENUE<Venue>` layout, below the :ref:`Layer Manager<layermanager>`, and cannot be closed there. It is available in the VENUE tab and in :ref:`custom tabs<Custom View Modes>` only, and only one can be open per :ref:`tab<View Modes>`.

.. note::
    A VENUE tab whose layout was saved with an earlier version of System Optimiser does not show the new panel until the tab is reset (right-click the tab and choose 'Reset View'), or the panel is added from the panel add menu.

As with all :ref:`Panels<panels>`, the Edit Layer Panel can be resized and moved using :ref:`Panel Drag & Drop<paneldrag>`, and 'popped out' into an :ref:`additional System Optimiser window<discreet System Optimiser Windows>`. The location of this Panel will be saved as part of the current :ref:`tab<View Modes>`.
