******************************************
Application Settings
******************************************

The Application Settings can be opened at any time from the :ref:`GUI Controls<viewcontrols>` in the top-right corner of the main System Optimiser window.

Settings chosen here apply to the current session. They can be stored as your personal defaults - including the choice of :ref:`units<units>` and panel preferences - using the buttons in the dialog's footer, and re-applied at any time. The theme persists on its own the moment you switch it. Independently of this, the SPL heat-map source and the :ref:`Maximum SPL<maximumsplpanel>` input settings are saved with each :ref:`system design file<filetypes>`.

**Save, Load, Export and Import**
    The footer of the Settings dialog contains five buttons:

    * **Save Settings** - stores your current settings (including units and panel preferences) as your personal defaults for new projects.
    * **Load Settings** - re-applies your saved personal defaults.
    * **Export Settings** - writes your settings (including the theme) to a file, for sharing between machines or colleagues.
    * **Import Settings** - applies a settings file to the current session immediately. Click Save Settings afterwards to keep it as your defaults.
    * **Reset to Defaults** - returns everything to factory settings.

.. note::
    Closing the dialog with the ✕ (cancel) reverts any rendering or unit changes made while it was open - including those made by Load, Import or Reset to Defaults. Close with the ✓ to keep them. The theme and panel preferences stick regardless of how the dialog is closed.
